Waterloo

The famous battle in 1815 was undoubtedly one of the most important in the history of Europe as a whole! However, when one enters Waterloo, it is hard to see any remains from this – still quite recent – past.

Easy to get to by the eastern rim of the Brussels ring road, Waterloo seems to be a modern, practical commune. The length of the Chaussée de Bruxelles you can find exquisite, elegant boutiques, just like in Brussels! Leaving the centre behind, the neighbourhoods are primarily residential… many are incredibly luxurious. Along the road to Charleroi you will find one of the largest shopping centres in the region, and on Sunday mornings the car park houses one of the largest flea markets in the country!
